PH III: PUERTO PRINCESA & PORT BARTON
27 SEPT – 1 OCT 2018
Puerto Princesa
We have two weeks to explore the whole of Palawan and we started off at Puerto Princesa to experience the Underground River Tour, which has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1999. We had to see all that fuss about this tour and we were not disappointed. I was personally blown away by how majestic and profound the cave is. The tour was very informative and follows strict safety guidelines for the tourists. Hence, this life jacket and helmet.

The park is 2 hour roller coaster drive away from the town proper of Puerto Princesa and we were also directed to a Mangrove tour in Sabang which was also amazing. It was all fun and games until a monkey stole our snack from Guillaume’s backpack. Lol

One thing to notice about Puerto Princesa is that they are rich in Mangroves. Good for the ocean but not so good if you would like to hang by the beach and swim because it can get quite muddy. The nearest beach from our rented place is called “Pristine Beach” but there is nothing really pristine about it. So after our tours, we headed to Port Barton.
Puerto Princesa daily life.

Port Barton

Port Barton is probably one of the most untouched islands in Palawan. No one knows about it unless you search it on Google. Be warned that most of the roads are still under construction, phone signal hard to come by, no wifi, no data in most places, and the place is relatively small compared to other parts of Palawan.

We really enjoyed the island hopping tour. The waters are so clear, you can see the coral reefs from your boat. It was like snorkeling inside a well maintained aquarium. There are hundreds of types of colorful fishes and we even get the chance to swim with a turtle.

Snippets of a quiet life.

We were happy to stay at this little niche. The place is chill and quiet. Staying here seemed to be a good idea. Until… my second episode of niknik attacks. We booked 2 nights in the Jungle Hut and was planning to stay longer but my allergic reactions were so severe, I was rushed to a nearby clinic. Not fun. Guillaume on the other hand had only a few bites and did not have as much reaction as mine.

As much as we’d like to have an authentic living experience here in Palawan, we will try to avoid huts for now. We stayed 1 more night in Port Barton but rented a more comfortable place for me to recover. Swollen itchy bites + difficulty breathing + diarrhea = holiday nightmare
Next stop is…
